Fun Facts about Malaysia:
- it rains every single day
- the sewer system is an open sewer system
- It is hot every single day
- There are more motorcycles than cars
- Everyone, EVERYONE goes to Hakker Centers, which sells really cheap less quality food. Millionaries still go to there just because its the culture of malaysia!
-There are Muslims, Chinese, Indians, and Ibans roaming the plains of east and west malaysia
-There are multiple "kampungs" which means villages, where many Ibans are born and raised. There they dont use money. They plant rice and hunt wild boar, something I wouldn't mind doing after I am retired :)
This week was intense!
As we went grocery shopping at delta again, we found the jackpot. The wonderful boss lady let us take all of the expired goods, FOR FREE. We got chips, drinks, cookies, snacks, for drinks, cookies, and snacks! I don't even know how much all of that stuff is worth, but it is unbelievable. My mom will finally be relieved to know I am not skinny anymore because of my time here in Sibu. :)
We had our first family home evening with Andre's family! They are wonderful and we loved it. We played a game my Dad learned on his mission in Germany called "Kicht." You will have to challenge him someday if you want to play the game.
Love you all!!
Elder Hong and I were out contacting people and we sat down with this one guy. When we told him what our purpose is here, he pulls out his phone and asks, "Do you know these guys?" It was me and Elder Cox hahaha. We must've contacted him a long time ago. Small world!
On Tuesday me and Elder McArthur thought it worthy to re-create thanksgiving because Malaysia does not celebrate it. We took some expired stuffing and baked it up! We then took some expired chips and dipped it into the stuffing. We added expired chicken on top of it (jk not expired. Maybe...). Delish!
On Wednesday I went on exchanges with Elder Okelberry, who has been out in the field for less than a week. I can't even imagine myself at that point of my mission, but then everyday it feels like I have been out for less than a week haha. Great Elder though!
Thursday was very, very surprising. We were going to have a zone blitz to help out the Sibu 2 Sisters (meaning everyone would come into their area and find the entire day). Instead, I was planning with Elder Cox when I started to not be able to see out of my left eye. It was the weirdest thing ever. After a little while I started to have a pain in the back of my right eye. I knew exactly what was happening. I had a MIGRAINE!!!! What the what? The last one I had was in 8th grade, 7 years ago. It was very unexpected. And yes mom, I had my companion make a rice bag so I could put it over my eye. And yes mom, I had the Chinese Elders deck out a room so there was no light or sound coming in at all. And no mom, I didn't tell you right away because I can only talk to you on Monday :) But it has passed! Hopefully it doesn't happen again...yikes. After I recovered, me and Elder McArthur made our own version of the Christmas tree. Check it out.
How did everyone like the world-wide day of service? Did you do service? I hope we all did. You wanna know a funny service I did? While we were riding our bicycles there was a man walking along the street. As I passed him I held out my hand to give him a high five. The man didn't expect this white guy on a bike to do something as crazy as that, so he dropped his cigarette he was holding in his hand so he could give me a high five. I saved 7 minutes of that guys life, and saved the world for half a second from global warming!! I like saving the world ;)
To save the world you gotta travel the world! To accomplish this, we took a boat across the river to an island where one of our members live. We brought our bikes and everything!
There was a cool miracle this weekend. While Elder Cox and Elder Hong were out riding there bikes, someone called out "Hey Elders!" as he drove by. For your information, if you ever here the word "Elder" and you are an elder, you do everything in your power to stop the person that said that and ask if they are a member hahaha. So Elder Cox and Elder Hong flipped a u-turn on their bikes, and caught him!! His name is Entamang. Weird situation. He was baptized in Sibu Jaya but was never confirmed because he didn't have a marriage certificate. Now his "wife" is nowhere to be found, so I guess we can teach him again! We taught the Plan of Salvation. He really felt the Spirit and was always sighing in relief every time he felt such a peaceful feeling.
This Sunday was fast sunday. Aveen and Andre bore some of the most powerful testimonies I've heard! They are just incredible grateful for the changes the restored gospel has made in their lives. I always love finding someone, seeing them change through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and seeing them want to do the same for others!!
I invite us all the change. If there is anything to consider in your life, consider it now. This is the gospel of peace and joy. Christmas is coming up!! Let us focus this season, not in the presents, but in His presence.
Love you all!!
