Hello everyone this week was really good.
On Tuesday, we went contacting at the Mihaja mall. We went into a mattress store and found the worker just sitting there. He said he was interested in learning more about the purpose of life. So we taught him right then and there on the mattresses!! It will probably be the most comfiest lesson I will ever have haha.
After District meeting, Elder Tan went to Singapore for a visa run. Elder Graham and I stayed in Cheras. We went to do companionship study in a mall. When I was washing my hands in the bathroom, an Indian man was washing his hands as well. All of a sudden, I heard him say, "Joseph Smith, right?" I was quite startled haha. It was the most random thing ever!! It turns out he used to be an investigator (someone who has learned from the missionaries, but now has discontinued learning). Now he showed an interest to learn again. We got his number and are planning to meet with him. God works in mysterious ways! 😉
Wednesday was transfer day!! I'm being transferred back to East Malaysia.
We drove in to the airport at 9:20 am. Our flight was at 10:26 am. I tried doing the self check in, but it wouldn't let me. Sooooo I had to wait in this really long line to check in. By the time I got up to the desk, the flight to Miri was already closed. They said I have to come in at least 1 hour early. I tried explaining to them that I was here an hour before, but the self machine wouldn't work, and the line took up some time. They wouldn't budge. So I missed my flight haha. They told me that I had to purchase another ticket (sorry mom and dad) and wait until 1:45pm to board the next flight. While waiting, someone came over the intercom and said that the 1:45pm flight to miri was canceled due to maintenance issues. Sooo I had to then wait until the 5:05 flight arrived. It was a long day in the airport!!
my new emoji wallet (that will never get stolen) gift from home full of cadbury eggs.
My new companion in Miri is Elder Curtis! He is from Monterey, California. He came into the mission a transfer after me (around a month and a half after I came in). He went to a year at BYU before coming out on the mission! He likes to play basketball and volleyball (because he is 6 foot 4). We both have the same mindset of missionary work which is great! (For example, doing 10 push-ups for every word we say in English) haha.

On Thursday we went over to an investigators house. Her name is Chrisma, and she is super solid!! She is planning to get baptized at the end of February. They told us that they had a little bit of food prepared for us, so they asked us to not eat a lot before we went over to their house. It turned out to be a 7 COURSE MEAL hahaha. At least it felt like it! Fried rice, fried noodles, barbecue chicken, lamb kebab, chicken kebab, hot dogs, fish, fish balls, and STINGRAY!! Who has ever tried sting ray?? It tasted a little like fish, but a lot more mushy. But still crazy that I tried it! We taught them about the gospel of Jesus Christ. We reminded her about the Plan of Salvation, how in order to live in the Celestial Kingdom (Heaven), we must follow Jesus Christ. So the way to follow Him is to live His gospel! The 6 fundamental parts of living the gospel are: Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ's Atonement, Repentance (change), Baptism, Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost (meaning we are given the Holy Ghost as a constant guide in our live), and enduring to the end, or simply following Jesus Christ for the rest of your life! These steps are ways to receive peace in this life, and joy in the life to come.
Sunday was great!! Church is a little different, because there are 3 branches that share the church building. So we have Priesthood meeting first, then Sunday School, and finish off for sacrament meeting. The members are so nice! Miri is a great place. On Sunday night, Elder Curtis and I had to fix my bike for about an hour. We felt like we were not being productive. So, we got super pumped up. We started chest bumping and high-fiving each other and shouting and getting ready to go find someone to teach!!! Normally, before we go out, we say a prayer. When we were going to start praying, we heard some dishes being washed. We looked over and saw our neighbor standing right there. We said hi, and she answered back. Soooo she just heard every ounce of energy we had in our bodies. It was really awkward but also really funny. Now she knows how missionaries get excited to find people who want to learn haha. We actually ended up finding someone new to teach. It was great! The Lord blessed us for our excitement :)
We woke up today with a BUNCH of rain!! Here is a pic of us biking in the rain :P
I hope y'all have a great week!!! Love you tons!
Love, Elder McKayd LaRose
