WEEK #14 & #15 - A Million Things in One Email

Hello hello world!

These past two weeks have been absolutely crazy! There were so many things going on, so this may be an email of 34 different topics, each being summarized in a sentence or two haha.

Guess what?? We got ANOTHER companion this week! So now we are in a tri-companionship. This is normally rare, but Elder Van Gils (his name) is trying to get a workers permit for Singapore, and is just waiting for approval. So President Simmons sent him over here to us trainees!

General Conference (a world-wide broadcast from church leaders) happened a longgggggg time agoooooo. We had to wait a week for the Malay translation. Here are a few thoughts that I liked!!!!

President Uchtdorf, a member of the First Presidency for our church, gave a speech on joyfully coming back home to our heavenly home. This life is meant to be filled with joy and blessings! "Blessings don't come because of our abilities, but our choices." If we sing the song "I Need Thee Every Hour," then by all means should we embrace His gospel every hour too.

Elder Jeffery R.Holland gave a wonderful talk titled: "Be Ye Therefore Perfect...eventually" The Savior's statement in the Sermon on the Mount may seem a little daunting to most people. Be ye perfect? How can we do that when everyone says we can never be perfect? Because of the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation, we know our lives do not end after we die. The Savior referred to perfectionism as a eternal quest, rather than a mortal request. Through Christ we can be perfected! If we are not perfect, thank goodness God is perfect! He also said, "Beating yourself up will not help you become the person God wants you to be." Ponder that!

Elder Ronald A Rasband spoke on God's divine design: "Treasure God's involvements. Changes in your plans are not missteps, but first steps on the path of Heavenly Father."

President Russel M. Nelson spoke of the importance of the Book of Mormon: "If you read the Book of Mormon every day, you will be able to live greater every day." If you don't believe me, try it for yourself! What bad would it do? We must live in a way that we cannot go a day without the Book of Mormon.

There are so many other wonderful talks too! My father has said to me, "General Conference should be your walk and talk for the next 6 months." I believe that! Our leaders pray for us. They fast for us. They spend sleepless nights pondering and receiving revelation, personally for you. Take time and make time to read and listen to Conference talks. Remember the sacrifices they have made for you!

On the following Monday, we got to go to Singapore for Zone Conference!

Zone Conference is a time for missionaries to receive training on specific ways to become more effective missionaries. Whether it is greater quality of studies, smarter ways of speaking with people, or building testimonies about this sacred work. Before the training, we got to have P-day in the city! I have a lot of pics, but here are the best ones!

We went to Gardens By the Bay, and entered into a building called "the Cloud forest." It was basically a mountain inside of a building, with all these crazy cool plants and decorations. Check it out!

We also went to China town and a bunch of other places! Hopefully all the pictures can upload!

Weird food that I have ate these past couple of weeks:
1. Chicken butt (not just the meat, but the part where certain things come out. It was so gross)
2. Anchovies (may not seem that bad to some, but to those some who understand my struggles, it was gross)
3. Snail!!

I will do a better job at updating everyone on the investigators we are teaching! One of them in named Chiliton. He is in high school and has a great desire to learn. For about two weeks we have been trying to find him. We happened to stumble upon him and he was able to come to church, be taught the Restoration after church, and brought a friend in the process!

Look who I saw!! Matt Dyer (our good friend and one of my wrestling coaches) had a business trip to Singapore the SAME DAY I was there for Zone Conference! It was so great to see him! He brought a package from home too! HOLY COW THERE WAS SO SOSOSO SO SO SOSOSOSOSOSOSOSOSOSOSO much candy!!! I am not gonna get fat, but I may die from all the sugar intake!! Haha. I almost started crying when I saw the Cadbury mini eggs!!!! Thank you everyone!

Love, Elder McKayd LaRose
