Transfers were quite unexpected. I am now serving in Mukah if y'alls didn't forget.
I have the opportunity to skype my family every week. They always make fun of me because I have slowly forgotten english. Yikes.
Fun Fact: "muka" means "face" in malay. So my muka is in Mukah, the town.
Before heading to mukah, Elder Okelberry and I were able to hit it hard for our last couple of days together. The members of the branch are so amazing and one day will build the stakes of Zion.
The 4 hour bus ride to Mukah was great. My head has created a "bus-mode" in which I don't think for 4 hours so I don't come out with a headache.
The members here in Mukah are amazing. There is a lot more biking then Sibu Jaya could ever wish to have. We had a great lesson with a recent convert named Francis. He has been slowly overcoming some problems in his life and has been reluctant to come to church. We helped him understand that taking the sacrament can allow him the strength needed to overcome those problems. At the end of the lesson, he threw up his hands and said, "Yes!! How on earth did you know to teach me about the sacrament? " We had a good laugh and gave all the credit to seeking inspiration from Heavenly Father.
On thursday we were eating lunch when a doctor came up to us and asked if we had an english copy of the Book of Mormon. Elder Vijayakumar talked to him before and gave a Book of Mormon to him in Malay. We visited his clinic and taught him on the spot. He didn’t receive it though. He was grateful to receive more of God’s word, but when I asked if he would be willing to come to church He replied, “No. Let’s be frank here, no.” Well hopefully my ancestors will give him a good knock on the head :)
It was a normal day in Mukah. All were quiet, just waiting for our arrival at the food court. I got a call from President Rowley. He said, “Hey Elder LaRose, there is a new missionary that basically needs to be retrained. This could make or break his mission. Will you be willing to come to KK tomorrow and finish his training?” I was blown away. I had served in Mukah for 6 DAYS. I met 40% of the branch. We needed to pack up my bike and get back before 6 to catch the bus to Sibu. My flight was at 7:45am on Wednesday. I had about 3 hours to get everything done and packed haha. It was a scramble but Sister Mensie and Babu were kind enough to bring their family along and get us to the bus station. I couldn’t believe it. I know I’m needed in KK, but it is just so sudden. I know President Rowley is inspired of God!
