WEEK #26 - Our Door is Always Open

This week was quite a different one from all the rest!! I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

My best Christmas present this year was being able to skype with my family!! The whole family was there, and it was weird hearing their voices haha. We got to skype for an hour, so a lot of things were talked about! Everyone is doing wonderful.

Big news from the big brother: He PROPOSED this past thursday!! It is so weird. He is my bigger brother, not some guy who went to college and got married. It will take some getting used to, but I know this is what needs to happen in his life at this time! Congrats Ky!! I am looking forward to being an uncle one day! Family is so important. I love them so much! I look forward to skyping them again on mother's day!

For Christmas, Elder Tan and I were able to go on a super duper fun hike! We did another jungle trek like last time. This time it was straight up a mountain! When we got to the top, it was a different sight to see. There was a little village at the top! There were tent stands selling drinks and food, a swingset, hammocks, a minature obstacle course, and a TREE HOUSE. It wasn't just any ordinary tree house. It was 3 LEVELS high. There was a table with chairs, a big wooden container, a sink, and a STOVE. Yup. There was a full out stove in a tree. My Dad is so jelous! It was the coolest thing I have ever seen in Malaysia. When we started to descend the mountain, it started POURING on us. We got so soaked. We wanted to go an extra mile and get muddy, so we scaled and slid down this huge mud hill. There were some pretty big water puddles too. Yup. We did some go-pro action shots and dove into the puddles. It was so fun!!

We were able to visit one of the members for Family Home Evening. Turns out their family is from Pakistan!! Their aunt was the first member of the Church in Pakistan, and afterwards their whole family was baptized into the Church! In my life, I have met the first Nigerian and Pakistani members. Really cool and unique!

On Tuesday, we received a call from one of our PI's. If you remember, a PI stands for "potential investigator," and is someone who has shown interest in learning more about the restored gospel. We normally exchange numbers and call to set up an appointment. This time, a PI called to remind us about an appointment we apparently had with him. That was so strange! Normally we are the ones always calling haha. We adjusted our schedule and later met with him. He turns out to be one of the most prepared PI's ever! As we were sharing from the Restoration pamphlet, he pulled out his highlighter and started taking notes and underlining as we were talking. Normally at the end of a lesson, we teach people how to pray, so that they can more fully receive inspiration or revelation from their prayers. He gave one of the longest, most Mormon prayers ever haha. In his prayer he said, "I have a really strong feeling that this is true." It was a special moment for all of us!

As mentioned before, the Singapore mission will be acquiring SMART PHONES! The work will be able to be so much smoother and go so much faster! Next week we are finalizing procedures and will be able to use smart phones. I just bought an Samsung S6!

We visited one of our less active members, and shared a Mormon message about standing up for what's right. In the world today, everyone is faced with peer pressure and the temptation to succumb to the standards of the world. In the moment of temptation, we must stand up for what's right, even if we are the only ones standing! Elder Gary E Stevenson, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has said, "What you do, where you go, and what you see will shape who you become." Our ultimate goal is to become like Christ, and every single thing that hinders that eternal goal should be avoided. So stand up for what is right! Let the consequences follow :)

Last Friday felt like Friday the 13th. We were woken up at 5:30am. Two guys were standing in the doorway of our bedroom. I just kinda froze, I couldn't really think cause I had just woken up. They kept telling us that our door was unlocked, over and over and over! We were freaked out because they totally came in and woke us up. They turned out to be security guards. The security guards for our apartment walk the halls every night. When they came to our apartment, both the metal gate and the door was wide open. They came in to tell us that someone had gotten in. We looked around our house and it looked like someone had rummaged through the house. It turned out that they had stolen my wallet! I had about 330 RM and all my cards. Everything else was still there. It was a blessing to see my phone still there that I had literally bought the day before. Pretty freaky huh? We lock our doors every single night, but apparently the one night we forgot to lock the door, someone came in and stole my wallet. We tried filing a report to the police, but it is useless. Let's just say the government is a little different then in America. I just hope the theft buys something worthwhile with my money haha. It was a humbling experience and I am grateful that Heavenly Father protected me and my companion as well as my phone and passport.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!! Make some quality new year resolutions and don't slack on them!! ;)

Love, Elder McKayd LaRose
